Harrisonburg Ranks Among Top Ten Safest Towns in U.S.

Safety is another great reason to live in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, Virginia, area. From 2006 to 2008, Harrisonburg improved its ranking from ninth to eighth place in The Farmers Insurance Group of Companies listings of the top 20 Most Secure U.S. Places to Live.
The rankings are based on data from 379 municipalities and divided into three population sizes - large metropolitan areas with more than 500,000 residents, mid-size cities with 150,000 to 500,000 residents, and small towns with fewer than 150,000 residents. In the 2006 rankings, three Virginia towns appeared among the top the most secure small towns in nation. However, in the rankings released in December 2008, only Harrisonburg remained in the top ten.
